Bentz, 43, passed away at his home in LaMoure, ND, on November 7, 2014.
Daniel Dean, son of Darrell and Julie (Wiles) Bentz was born October 4, 1971 at Dell Rapids, SD. He was baptized at Winner, SD. Shortly after, the family moved to a farm near Artas, SD, where Daniel grew up. He was confirmed at Eureka Reformed Church, Eureka, SD, and graduated from Eureka High School with the class of 1990. He then attended North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton, ND, graduating in 1992 in automotive technology. In May of 1993, he married Julie Marie Buchholz of Zeeland, ND. Together they had five sons, Donovan, Damien, Austin, Chandler, and Logan. In 2000, he moved from Herreid, SD to LaMoure, ND. Daniel was employed with Green Iron Equipment in LaMoure as a service technician, before going to work with them in their Milnor location as Service Manager.
Daniel loved being outdoors and shared this enthusiasm with his sons, as they enjoyed camping, fishing, and geo-caching together. They also enjoyed ATV trail-riding.
Daniel organized many ATV runs/rides and benefits with family and friends, and he enjoyed getting muddy and having fun.
Daniel served on the LaMoure City Council for one term. He was a volunteer for the LaMoure Fire Department, and was instrumental in organizing the demolition derby fundraiser for the Fire Department. Daniel was an EMT and was a driver for the LaMoure Ambulance, and also served on the Ambulance Board.
Daniel loved fixing and repairing any kind of machinery there was. In his grade school years on the farm, he was happy when machinery broke down so he could help his father fix it. Daniel was looking forward to begin farming on the family farm near Artas in the spring of 2015, where he would have enjoyed doing what he loved to do, being outdoors and “fixing” machinery.
He is survived by four sons, Donovan Bentz, Brookings, SD, Damien Bentz, LaMoure, ND, Austin Bentz and Logan Bentz, both of Rapid City, SD; his parents, Darrell and Julie Bentz, Artas, SD; grandmother, Bertha (Jahraus) Bentz, Eureka, SD; and his very special friend, Jodean Witt and her children, Tyson, Lynnae and Miranda.
Daniel was preceded in death by an infant son, Chandler Daniel; and grandparents, Christian Bentz and Vernon and Letha (Loucks) Wiles.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. with a prayer service starting at 7:30 p.m. at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, LaMoure. His funeral will be Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Zoar Lutheran Church, LaMoure. A graveside service will be held Wednesday afternoon, November 12th at 3:00 p.m. at the Artas Cemetery near Artas, SD. An on-line guestbook may be signed at www.dahlstromfuneralhome.com
