CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) While the game may have been an exhibition for the Valley City State women’s basketball team, the play on the court was anything but, as VCSU squeaked out a 54-52 victory over the University of Mary.

Georgia Williams led the Vikings with 17 points including two giant three pointers. One of which was a buzzer beater at the end of the first half that tied the game at 30 apiece. The second giving the Vikings a two point lead with just 13 second remaining in the contest.

The game was highly contested all the way to the end. With seconds remaining in the match, U of Mary’s Haley Hibbs intercepted a deep inbound pass from Sierra Even. As the clock ticked down, Hibbs released what appeared to be the game winning shot, but as the crowd at W.E. Osmon field house watched with relief the ball fell off the right side of the rim giving the Vikings the two point win.

Leading the Marauders on the stat sheet was Brittney Dietz, who had a game high 22 points.  Valley City State’s  Sadiqah Jihad had 16 points and four assists. As a team the Vikings outrebounded University of Mary 41 to 37.

The Vikings (2-1) return to regular season action on the road at Viterbo on the 22nd of November.
