Plecity, age 81, of Valley City, ND, died Wednesday, April 1st at Essentia Health in Fargo, ND surrounded by his family.  A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, April 7th at Trinity Lutheran Church in Valley City.  Visitation will be held on Monday, April 6th from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Lerud Schuldt Funeral Home and one hour before the service at the church on Tuesday afternoon.  Interment will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery near Valley City.

Duane Allen Plecity, the eldest of eight children, was born October 9, 1933 to Joseph and Faith Plecity.  He attended school and worked for the family business, Plecity House Moving and Excavating in Valley City.  This business moved farms and homes to create the basin of Lake Ashtabula near Valley City.  He married Janice Nilsen on November 2, 1952.  The Plecity family established the Plecity Trailer Court where they managed while living in Valley City.  In 1957, Duane joined Inter-Community Telephone Company of Nome, ND as a lineman.  He dedicated nearly 40 years to the telephone business and saw many changes ranging from aerial lines to fiber optics.  Duane was an active member in the community doing many things such as coaching basketball and baseball.  He loved sports, especially when it involved his children.  He traveled to all of the games that he could when his children were in high school and college.  He was always interested in the Class B Basketball Tournament even up to his final days.  He enjoyed fishing and hunting.  His most memorable hunting trip was when he went to Montana and shot his 6×6 bull elk, which he had mounted.  It still hangs in their house today above the dining room table.  As a member of the Nome community, Duane was City Mayor, Sheriff, City Councilman and a member of the Fire Department.  He was also a member of the Zion Lutheran Church.  He was also a member of the Barnes County Wildlife Club and the Valley City Eagles Club.  Duane enjoyed playing pinochle with his family and friends.

Duane is survived by his wife of 62 years, Janice, Valley City, ND; five children, Doyle (Sharon) Plecity, Fargo, ND, Cynthia (Booker) Brooks, PA Furnace, PA, Kathy (Mike) DuBord, Fargo, ND, Jack (Denise) Plecity, Abercrombie, ND and Gerri (Patrick) Noonan, Lisbon, ND; a brother, Howard Dennis (Sue) Plecity, Fargo, ND; two sisters, Sharon Hennick, Bakersfield, CA and Janice Olson, Lancaster, CA; twelve grandchildren, Tina (Eric) Geise, Peoria, AZ, Kelly (Tom) Billings, Glendale, AZ, Cory (Keri) Schall, Oakes, ND, Steven (Rachel) Schall, Fargo, ND, Jeremy (Tara) DuBord, Fargo, ND, Sheena Plecity, Fargo, ND, Larissa (Garric) Oxley, Wadsworth, OH, Blane Plecity, Abercrombie, ND, Jennifer (Brad) Bonogofsky, St. Anthony, ND, Belinda (Chris) Olson, Lisbon, ND, Bryce (Chelsea) Noonan, West Fargo, ND and Brent Noonan, Grand Forks, ND;  and 13 Great-grandchildren.

Duane was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Faith Plecity, two brothers, Douglas Plecity and Roger Plecity and one sister, Peggy Zaun.
