CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The West Fargo Packers handed Valley City softball their second loss of the season Thursday night in a 11-5 final.

The Packers struck first with four runs in the top of the opening frame. That lead would be cut to three in the third when Mackenzie Pederson drove in McKenna Taylor with an infield single.  The Hi-Liners would get four more runs in the runs in the sixth inning, behind a 2 RBI double from Heather Knutson. However, the packers had an answer named Katie Gilbertson. Gilbertson went 3-for-5 at the plate with three RBIs and a run. Packers would plate 7 more scores in the final four innings to claim the win.

The Hi-Liners fall to 1-2 in the EDC with the loss. They return to the diamond in Valley City on Tuesday when they host Fargo South for a conference, non-conference double header.

The Valley City Baseball team also picked up their first win of the season with a 9-5 victory over West Fargo Sheyenne. It is the Hi-Liners first victory under new head coach, Jerry Bennefeld. Hi-Liner baseball is on the road next Tuesday at Fargo Davies.
