CITY, ND – The Valley City CROP WALK for HUNGER was held Sunday, April 26. Walker started their trek at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church.
The 10 kilometer (6 mile) walk represents how far women in third world countries walk daily to fetch water and firewood for their families.
25 percent of the CROP WALK funds raised from the 2015 event in Valley City go to the Barnes County Food Pantry to help local residents.
Crop Walk spokeswoman Mary Mortensen says here’s how you’re changing lives through donating to the CROP WALK for HUNGER. $24 will buy a one year supply of nutrition packets for 20 children to promote healthy growth and development; $50 will provide seeds and tools to help a family grow their own healthy food to eat and sell at market; $110 will buy an emergency food package with enough food for a family of 5 for one month (used for refugees coming out of war torn Syria and disaster areas).
Local Crop Walk chairperson Sharon Buhr said “we can help save lives, both here at home and abroad and give children a chance to grow healthy and strong.”
Here are some of the local people involved with the Crop Walk for Hunger event in Valley City: Todd Anderson of the Nazarene Church, Edie Schmidt, Sharon Buhr, Bonnie Brown and Pastor Emmy Svedlund of Our Saviors Lutheran, Mary Mortensen or Epworth Methodist, Pastor Jolene Knudson-Hanse of Trinity and Pastor Joanne Moeller of Trinity Lutheran.
