CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Valley City State’s Cejay Hilhorst and David Whitaker have been named Softball Player-of-the-Week and baseball Pitcher-of-the-Week in the North Star Athletic Association.

Hilhorst helped the Vikings softball team to a 5-1 record for the week, batting .471 at the plate, scoring 12 runs, hitting two home runs and driving in 10 RBIs. The Killarney, Manitoba native was 8-of-17 at the dish with seven hits going for extra basses including four doubles a triple and two home runs.
The Viking softball team finished the regular season taking 3-of-4 games from Dakota State University and clinching third place in the upcoming NSAA conference tournament. Valley City will open postseason play on Friday against Presentation College. The NSAA Tournament will be held at Dakota State University in Madison, South Dakota.
Whitaker earned Baseball Pitcher-of-the-Week honor for his part in the Vikings 3-2 win

over Mayville State on Saturday, April 25. In the complete game win, the La Crescenta, California ace allowed just two runs on four hits, recorded three strikeouts and walked just one batter. The victory set a new high mark for the program at 29 wins on the year.
The VCSU baseball team also captured a third place finish in the NSAA regular season. They will open up play against in the conference tournament Friday afternoon against Dakota State University. NSAA Baseball Tournament will be held at Dickinson State.
