(NewsDakota.com) Jon Tyre is scheduled to be a part of the Valley City State University baseball team next season.

Judging by his performance against one of the better teams in the Southeast Region of Class B Legion baseball, the Vikings are adding one pretty good kid.

Tyre pitched a two-hit shutout, registered a single and a double, and scored a run as Oakes Post 36 blanked Enderlin Post 221 7-0 at Hendrickson Field on Thursday evening.

Tyre struck out five batters, and only issued two walks in arguably his best all-around performance this season. The Oakes offense gave their starting pitcher plenty of breathing room going to the bottom of the seventh inning, as Post 36 (8-3) scored four runs on six hits in the top half of the inning.

Bryce Meehl hit a solo home run in the fifth inning that lead to the end of Adam Stenson’s start on the mound for Post 221 (5-4). Stenson allowed two runs on three hits, and registered four strikeouts in just four and a third innings of work.

Post 36 has the weekend off, and will head to Kindred on Monday to face Post 117. Coverage on KDDR-AM 1220/95.9 FM and NewsDakota.com will start at 5:50 p.m., with first pitch set for 6 p.m.
