N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown/Stutsman Development Corporation has shifted their focus from growth in Spiritwood to other issues in Jamestown that include housing and child care.

Executive Director Connie Ova pointed out that the CHS project cancellation has allowed them to move their priorities elsewhere for the time being. According to Ova, while planning of CHS was underway, the community and county were in a sort of emergency build mode.

Connie stated that the jobs available are good jobs, ranging from engineers to medical staff at the hospital. She also stated that with the roughly 700 people needed to work those open jobs, housing would need to be addressed.

The JSDC is working with several other projects in the area including a wind farm and the water issues that remain at the Spiritwood Energy Park.

Executive Director of the Jamestown Chamber of Commerce Becky Thatcher-Keller stated that other issues, including daycare, were a rising problem that needed to be addressed as well. Statistics show that there are currently 300 kids with no daycare in the area. These items and others will be the focus of the JSDC in the coming months.
