(NewsDakota.com) – It’s the third straight year in which Jamestown has beaten Grand Forks Central in the season opener and they did so this time around with a 27-14 win at Cushman Field in Grand Forks. Jamestown senior tailback Ben Hanson had 219 yards on the ground and a pair of touchdown runs to pace his teams scoring.
Central struck first in the game on a one-yard touchdwn run by QB Ryan Erickson late in the second quarter, but Jamestown responded just three plays later. Hanson capped off a three-play drive with a 12-yard stroll to the end zone where he went in untouched.
Jamestown continued their run rattling off the next 20 points or 27 in a row total. Hanson scored again from nine-yards away in the third quarter. Senior QB Andrew Hornung had a one-yard scoring run and hit Noah Wanzek on fourth-and-goal from the eight with his first career touchdown pass.
Jamestown will try to go to 2-0 when West Fargo Sheyenne comes to Ernie Gates Field for the home opener on Friday.
