Drenth, 86, Jamestown, ND died peacefully surrounded by family, Monday September 7, 2015 at Ave Maria Village in Jamestown, ND.

Marion Schober was born December 10, 1928 in Edgeley, ND, the daughter of Herman Schober and Emilia (Nitschke) Schober. She attended the local rural school and graduated from Jud High School in 1946. After 8 weeks of study at Valley City State College, she was able to teach. This group of teachers was known as the 8 week wonders. She continued her education while teaching and she received her standard 2 year diploma in 1950; with much perseverance she received her Bachelor of Science degree in education in 1967.

Her 32-year teaching career started in a 1 room school house. She taught mostly in LaMoure and Stutsman Counties. She travelled to various states for educational meetings. She was a lifetime member of the National Education Association. In 2007 she received the Silver Apple Teacher Award for service to retired teachers.

She served locally in different offices, as secretary-treasurer for the North Dakota Classroom Teachers’ Association. For a number of years, she served on the elections committee at the national convention. She held several offices in the Edgeley Education Association, and she was Vice President for a time. She was also a member of the ND Retired Teachers Association, and the Stutsman County Area Retired Teachers Association.

She was also secretary-treasurer for the Dickey-LaMoure Area Council. After teaching she worked and volunteered at Central Dakota Nursing Home.

She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Jamestown. She was baptized and confirmed in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Jud where she taught Bible school and Junior Lutheran group.

She is survived by 1 sister, Grace Walz, Jamestown, ND; 1 sister-in-law, Leona Schober, West Fargo, ND; nephews, Randy, Curt (Cheryl), Doug, Brad (Faye) Schober, Dave (Chris), Don (Amy) and Dean (Bridget) Walz; great nephews, Kyle, Karl, and Chaz Schober, and Ben, Andrew and Nate Walz; and great nieces, Courtney (Chris) Roof, and Izzy and Violet Walz.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 1 brother, Floyd Schober and 1 niece, Deborah Walz,
