Carrington 58 Napoleon/Gackle-Streeter 50 OT
In the first and only upset of the day according to seed, number three Carrington defeats number two NGS in an overtime thriller. At one point, Carrington led by as many as 13 points, but the Imperials scored 17 points in the fourth quarter compared to just nine from Carrington to take the lead for the first time.
The Cards were down by three points near the end of the fourth quarter, Freshman Payton Smith would launch a three pointer to try and tie the game and would miss, but was fouled by NGS. So with 1.8 seconds left, Smith would shoot three free throws. He missed the first free-throw, hit the second one to pull within two, then missed the third but the ball was tipped right back to Smith on the rebound and he put up another shot and made it at the buzzer. But the shot didn’t go in without drama, the ball hit the front of the rim, hit the backboard and rolled around and then fell in. In OT, Carrington outscored NGS 14-6 to secure the victory. The Cards are now 5-1, the Imperials drop to 1-4. Leading the way for Carrington was Junior Bryce Edland with 18 points and 12 rebounds.
