(NewsDakota.com) – Jamestown is 4-0 against Bismarck St. Mary’s in boys and girls basketball this year as both teams picked up wins on Tuesday night in the capital city. The Blue Jay girls started slow, but regrouped for a 51-41 win. The boys saw their double-digit lead cut to one before Josh Schulz secured the win at the line, 69-65.

The girls from JHS fell behind 15-2 in the opening minutes against St. Mary’s and needed over nine minutes to score their first field goal, but once they did they went on a 14-0 run to take the lead. Jamestown went into half leading 20-19.

Bailey Lamp didn’t score in the first half, but had 14 in the second as the Jamestown offense started clicking. For the Jays it’s their seventh win of the season as they move back above .500 at 7-6.

In the boys game, Jamestown raced out to a 40-27 lead at half behind 14 points from Noah Wanzek and 10 from Logan Anderson. The Saints tightened up the interior defense in the second half and Jamestown needed the long ball from Schulz and Jake Ruether to hold down St. Mary’s.

Schulz hit four threes and Ruether hit three, three of them coming when the Saints pulled within one possession. The Saints started fouling in the final minute to lengthen the game, but Schulz was a perfect 6-6 from the line to seal the win.

Jamestown will host Legacy on Thursday night. The Sabers, in their first WDA contests in school history, beat the Jays on opening night back in December.
