Steidl, age 66, of Valley City died Saturday, January 23rd at her home in Valley City.  A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1PM Thursday, January 28, 2016 at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Valley City with Msgr. Dennis Skonseng celebrant.  Visitation will be from 5PM until 7PM Wednesday at the Lerud-Schuldt Funeral Home with a Prayer Service beginning at 7 PM, also at the funeral home.  Interment will take place at Holy Trinity Cemetery, Fingal, ND later in the spring.

Karen was born on February, 5th 1949, in Valley City, North Dakota. She was one of two children born to Harold and Agnes (Anderson) Staub. She graduated from Valley City High School in 1967. She married David Steidl on August 25th, 1967. She worked at Mercy Hospital in various areas until she chose to continue her education, graduating from North Dakota State School of Science with an associate’s degree in nursing in 1984. She continued to pursue her education in nursing. She worked as a nurse at Mercy Hospital, and later taught health careers at Sheyenne Valley Vo-Tech Center. She enjoyed caring for and teaching others until she was forced to retired for health reasons.

Karen was a member of St. Catherine’s Catholic Church. She was a circle member and volunteered at the Nearly Nu. She was also was a member of the Lady’s Am Vet Auxiliary. She enjoyed her friends and family, especially grandchildren and extended family. She enjoyed sewing, crafts, and her feline companions.

Karen is survived by her husband of 48 years, David; a daughter Lisa (Boyd) Johnson of Valley City; two grandsons, Garrett and Kory of Valley City; two granddaughters, Karly Hess of Fargo and Allison Johnson of Valley City; and two great granddaughters, Kylie and Halie.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Melvin, and nephew Kory.
