(NewsDakota.com) The Oakes High School track and field teams competed at the TK Relays Meet at Jake Christianson Stadium on the campus of Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota Thursday.

The Oakes girls finished in fifth place, in large part due to strong performances in the field events. Bella Hansen won the Discus with a throw of 101 feet 6 inches and also finished 3rd in the Shot Put, Alex Schmitz was 4th in Discuss and second in Javelin, Makalya Wetzel took 7th in the Discuss, Bailey Skjefte was 5th in the Long Jump and 7th in Triple Jump, Claire Wagner finished 6th in the Pole Vault, Abby Folkman placed 8th in the Triple Jump and Shelby Roney was 4th in Javelin and 8th in the 800 Meter Run.

The Tornado boys were 15th, with all of their points coming from Layne Schmidt, who was 4th in the 1600 Meter Run and 2nd in the 3200 Meter Run.

Hillsboro-Central Valley won the girls meet with 83 points, while Milnor-Wyndmere-Lidgerwood took the top spot in the boys meet with a team total of 101 points.

Oakes’ next meet is Tuesday, when they compete at a meet in Lisbon
