N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – An event that has been held annually in Carrington for more than 140 years will be held once more on Memorial Day.
The annual Memorial Day program will be held once again on Monday, May 30th in Carrington to help honor those who have fallen protecting our country’s freedom. Commander of the Carrington American Legion Bob Scott stated that the event originally started in 1867.
The VFW and American Legion eventually took lead of the annual event and have continued the tradition to this day. Commander Scott states that there are millions of soldiers that have given their lives to protect this country.
Scott says that those who can’t attend the program on Memorial Day in Carrington can just pay their respects by remembering and honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
Commander Scott says he’s hopeful that younger soldiers and members of the American Legion and VFW will continue the event.
The event will feature speakers, patriotic reading as well as a Memorial Day address for fallen comrades. A benediction will be held by Reverend Richard Biberdorf. The event will take place on Monday, May 30th at 11 AM. In case of bad weather, it will be held at Grace Lutheran Church.
