ND (NewsDakota.com) – In a thrilling 11 inning game the Valley City Hi-Liner Girls Fast Pitch Softball team defeated Fargo Davies 6-5 in an EDC state qualifier game on Saturday, May 28th.

The lady Hi Liners will advance to the state tournament as the #3 seed in the east and will take on the #2 seed in the west the Jamestown Blue Jays on Thursday, June 2nd. The first pitch will be between 6PM and 6:30PM in Jamestown.

The 2 hour and 50 minute game was easily the longest game in the EDC tournament at Sid Cichy stadium on the Fargo Shanley campus.

Earlier in the day, Fargo Shanley defeated Valley City 5-3. The Hi Liners were down 3 to 1 before the Hi Liner bats tied the game in the 5th inning 3 to 3. But in the 7th inning the Deacons scored two runs to seal the win.

On Friday, May 27th a storm halted play during the semifinal round of the East Region Softball Tournament in Fargo after a tornado was spotted two miles south of the stadium. The second and third rounds of the tournament had to be played on Saturday, May 28th due to the storm on Friday.

On Thursday, May 26th Tarryn Justesen struck out 14 batters and Grace Scherr hit a solo home run Thursday as the HI-Liner softball team downed Grand Forks Central 6-3 in an EDC Tournament quarterfinal game.

Valley City built a 4-0 lead after Scherr’s home run in the second inning. Central cut the deficit to 4-3, but Justesen and the Hi-Liners shut the door the rest of the way and added two more runs for the final score of 6-3.

Hi Liner coach Jason Lindgren had this summary of the game between the Hi Liners and Fargo Davies: I Don’t Even Know What To Call This One, By Far The Longest And Hardest Fought Game I Have Ever Coached In, But As Always These Girls Don’t Know The Meaning Of Quit. Big Players Come Through In Big Momemts And Today Showed We Have A Lot Of Big Players Just Looking For Big Moments.

TarrynJustesen Is An Obvious One, This Girl Threw  2 Complete Games Today And Game 2 With Our Season On The Line She Faced 48 Batters In 11 Innings, 186 Pitches Faced A Ton Of Adversity, Thinking The Game Was Probably Won And Over A Couple Of Times Only To Have To Pitch Another Inning.

McKenna Taylor On The Offensive Side Of Things Led The Way With 3 RBI’s and Scored A Run In Showing A Knack For The Moment,  Grace Scherr Did Was The Amazing Grace Does, She Scores Runs.  With Garce And Kacee White Setting The Table At The Top Of The Order, It Really Makes It Easier For The Middle Of Our Lineup Do What They Are Supposed To Do, Drive In Those Runs And Give Our Pitchers Some Breathing Room.
Lost In All Of Tarryn’s Accomplishments Is How Well Her Catcher Lexi Ondracek Handled Her As Well All Weekend. All Those Pitches Tarryn Threw Today, Lexi Had To Squat Back There And Handled Them All With Such Poise And Strength. I Can’t Say Enough About This Team And Only Wish We Could Have Gotten More Than 4 On The All EDC Team. The 4 We Did Get On All Deserved It; led By The EDC’s Outstanding Senior We Have Tarryn Justesen, Followed By Kacee White, Jayda Haugen & Mackenzie Pederson.  The Performance Of These 4 Along With The Rest Of Their Teammates Helped Get Coach Lindgren To be Named EDC Coach Of The Year.

Congratulations To Coach and his Players As They Have Now Extend Their Season And Will Get To Play The Host Jamestown Bluejays In The Final Game Of The Opening Round Of The ND State Tournament on Thursday, June 2nd In Jamestown At Approximately 6:00.

Tarryn Justesen struck out 14 batters and Grace Scherr hit a solo home run Thursday as the HI-Liner softball team downed Grand Forks Central 6-3 in an EDC Tournament quarterfinal game.

Valley City built a 4-0 lead after Scherr’s home run in the second inning. Central cut the deficit to 4-3, but Justesen and the Hi-Liners shut the door the rest of the way and added two more runs for the final score of 6-3.

Scherr and Kacee White each had three hits for the Hi-Liners, who recorded 11 hits in the victory Thursday. Justesen pitched a complete game for her 12th win of the season. She allowed seven hits and three runs while striking out 14 Grand Forks batters.

The Hi-Liners (17-12 overall record) set the tone early with a big first inning. Justesen struck out the side in the top of the first, and then the Hi-Liner offense added three runs in the bottom of the inning for a quick 3-0 lead. After Central cut the lead to 4-3, Scherr and White had back-to-back RBI singles in the fourth inning to push the lead back to 6-3.

Top seed West Fargo also advanced with a 14-1 win over Devils Lake. West Fargo will play Grand Forks Red River in the semifinals after Red River defeated Fargo Davies, 9-6.
