N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – It was announced on May 23rd that appointed Foster County States Attorney Ashley Lies would be resigning from her temporary position June 14th.
During a special commission meeting on May 26th, the commission made the decision to accept Lies’ resignation and appoint former States Attorney Paul Murphy to the position.
Another special meeting was held May 31st to rescind that decision. Foster County Auditor Casey Cables states that the commission made that decision because the motion was not published on the agenda.
Cables reports that the special meeting was planned due to a potential lawsuit from a community member upset at the decision that was made and not published on the agenda.
After being rescinded from the position, Paul Murphy reportedly left the meeting. Murphy says he didn’t feel the need to be there if he wasn’t the States Attorney.
“I gave all my county documents and keys to the Sheriff. There’s no need for me to be there if I’m not in that position,” Murphy stated.
Cables pointed out that the decision on appointing a States Attorney has been tabled until the June 7th meeting. She says the commission will begin a process of finding a replacement or will officially appoint Murphy to the position, fulfilling what Lies says would be the best course of action.
