N.D. (AP) — Gov. Jack Dalrymple has directed state government agencies to fly the U.S. and North Dakota flags at half-staff to respect the victims of a weekend nightclub shooting in Orlando, Florida.

Dalrymple also is encouraging state residents to do the same, in accordance with a directive from President Barack Obama that calls for flags at half-staff until sunset on Thursday.

Officials and public figures across the world are expressing condemnation and shock over the mass shooting at the Pulse Orlando nightclub on Sunday. Police say a gunman wielding an assault-type rifle opened fire, killing at least 50 people and wounding dozens.

It’s the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history.
