CITY, ND – (NewsDakota.com) The prospect for more affordable housing units took a step forward this week in Valley City.

The city planning and zoning board approved of a proposal to build a 36 unit complex just west of an existing one along Winter Show Road and a developer plans to build a 40 unit complex on east main near the South Central Adult Services garage.

Area Economic Development Director Jennifer Feist told the school board about the plan and asked the board to support the proposed property tax exemption.

Feist says the two projects will help fill the increasing demand for affordable housing in Valley City.

The Valley City School board voted 4-0 to support the property tax exemption which phases the exemption out after 10 years.

School board member Ryan Mathias did not cast a vote being he was unable to attend the August 16th school board meeting.
