N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The University of Jamestown kicked off classes Monday and will be celebrating the new year in a big way this Thursday.

The annual University of Jamestown community block party is held in downtown Jamestown and welcomes in new and returning students. Gary Van Zinderen, Dean of Students at the University of Jamestown, says the event is required for new students coming to Jamestown.

The event will feature booths with information on church services, community organizations, clubs and different businesses that are in Jamestown. Van Zinderen stated that a lot of the University students have used the event to get involved in the region.

The block party is set for September 1st on Main Street from 5 PM to 8 PM. You can find more information at uj.edu.
