CITY, N.D.  (NewsDakota.com)  The first game ever took place on the new Fridley Field on Friday night as the Wolves of Watford City beat the Titans of Central Dakota 40-14.  Watford City improves to 3-1 and 2-0 in the AA West, Central Dakota drops to 0-4 overall and 0-2 in the AA West.  

Sophomore Quarterback Hunter Schwartzenberger connected with Junior Wide Receiver Brett Skarda for a 41 yard touchdown reception for the first touchdown of the game.  The Wolves scored the first five touchdowns of the contest.  The Titans had a chance to cut the gap to six points in the second quarter when they had the ball first and goal, but they couldn’t punch it in.  On fourth down and goal, the Titans went for it but fumbled the football and Matt Ackerman recovered the fumble and ran to the end zone for a 96-yard touchdown making it 20-0.  At the start of the fourth quarter, Junior Allen Contreras ran the kickoff return for an 80-yard touchdown, making the score 34-7 after the extra point from Sophomore Luke Schomburg.  Later, Junior Braden Tripp rushed for a 66-yard touchdown making it 40-14 with :38 seconds left in the game.   

The new field is named after former long-time head coach for Watford City, Fred Fridley, who was honored before the game.  Fridley coached for 42 years, earned nine state championships, 11 runner-ups and over 300 wins from 1971-2013.
