Coach’s Comments

After today, we have one week left of the regular season.  We are trying to figure out what is going to work for us come the 3-2 line-up in the post season.

Zach and Trevor fought through a first set and won it 7-5 in the tiebreaker.  After getting beat soundly in the 2nd set 6-2, they came back and won the match 7-5 in the third two hours and ten minutes after it started.  Trevor is developing more touch every time he is on the court.  Zach played his best doubles of the season by stepping into his shots and putting away his volleys.

Collin and Liam played for the first time together.  It was tough as their opponents were both excellent servers and solid volleyers.  One opponent was Michael Traynor who had a fantastic day for Shanley.  I was impressed with him as he stayed controlled within his game, played solid defensive and neutral balls, appropriately attacked short balls, and put away volleys.  We tip our hat to Michael today.

Hunter and Riley were blown off the court in the first set.  Both the opponents had very offensive serves which led to easy put aways at the net.  After the first set, we modified our strategy and played two back on returning.  Shanley still had easy volleys on the return, but we were in a position to get them back and get the point started.  Hunter was all over the court and put away balls harder than anyone I’ve coached.  Riley started to believe and move to put away volleys as well.  They came back to win against a very good team in an awesome match to watch.  They now have 4 EDC wins on the season at #1 doubles which will bode well for their individual tournament seeding.

On the JV side, Hale Kringlie has been working very hard to solidify his backhand and keeps improving.  Jack Ingstad switched up his game to hit with more topspin and looked very good today.  Josh Vachal executed mentally between the points.  Austin and Bennett Rogelstad continue gaining experience on the court.  They both have great games, now we need to execute that game on every stroke.

We have two 3-2 matches in Bismarck on Saturday against Century and Legacy.  Next week, we are at South on Tuesday and finish the EDC regular season at home against GF Central with our annual hotdog feed put on by the VCTA.
