CITY, ND – (NewsDakota.com) Valley City residents voted for Dave Carlsrud by a 5 to one margin over two other candidates in a special election to fill out the remaining two year term of former Mayor Bob Werkhoven.
Carlsrud received 1,044 votes, Janice Clark Klein had 181 and Scott Sandvik received 150 votes in a special election held on September 15th.
Carlsrud said we need to treat everyone with respect and make the best decisions for the entire community.
Valley City Auditor Avis Richter said 1,384 ballots were cast. More than 300 were absentee ballots. She says only 2 ballots were questionable.
Richter said the canvassing board will meet on September 21st to certify the election results. Carlsrud will be sworn into office after the canvassing board certifies the results.
