Veil, 87, Jamestown, ND, died Thursday, November 10, 2016 at the Jamestown Regional Medical Center.

Meinhardt Veil was born March 28, 1929 at Streeter, ND, the son of Fred Veil and Bertha (Kubler) Veil. He received his elementary education in the local school and grew to manhood in the vicinity where he helped on the family farm.

He and Gertrude Reiser were married July 2, 1950 at Streeter, ND. They made their home on a farm east of Streeter where they resided. They moved into Jamestown in 1956 where he worked for the North Dakota State Hospital, on the farm, and was a painter for 32 ½ years.

He and Juanita Hawkins were married September 3, 1982 at Jamestown, ND. They made their home in Jamestown and in 1987 he retired.

He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, President of the AFL-CIO, and Eagles President from 2000-2002. Meinhardt enjoyed woodworking, painting pictures, making quilt tops and embroidering. He was very talented with his hands. He especially enjoyed mowing lawn.

Surviving are his wife Juanita, Jamestown, ND; his children, Kenneth (Jeannie) Veil, St. Francis, MN, Keith Veil, Jamestown, ND, Kathleen (Robert) Faust, Aurora, CO, and Kelvin (Carma) Veil, Logansport, IN; 2 step children, Brenda (Kevin) Ruziska, Moorhead, MN, and Clifford Bassett, Oregon; and one brother, Werner (Ina) Veil, Lidgerwood, ND.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Viola.

Memorial Service will be at 10:30 AM Tuesday, November 15, 2016 in St. John’s Lutheran Church in Jamestown, ND with Pastor Erik Weber, pastor officiating.

Interment will be made in the Highland Home Cemetery in Jamestown, ND.

A Prayer Service will be held at 7:00 PM Monday, November 14 at Haut Funeral Home, Jamestown.
