(JimmieAthletics.com) – The University of Jamestown basketball swept Dakota State with wins in two completely different ways. The women dominated, while the men needed two overtimes for the victory.

WBB: Jimmies 88, Dakota State 45

The Jamestown Jimmies (7-2, 2-0) concluded a NSAA home weekend sweep by dismantling Dakota State 88-45 Sunday afternoon at the Jamestown Civic Center.

Taylor Hammer (SR/Grand Forks, ND) led the Jimmies with 19 points, one short of her career high, and 10 rebounds while Kyra Dewald(SR/Jamestown, ND) had 15 points and Alexis Watts (SR/Miller, SD) added 14 points.

The trio combined to make 18 of 29 shots from the floor.

The Jimmies shot 50% from behind the 3-point arc, making 10-of-20 attempts, outrebounded the Trojans 46-37 and forced 24 turnovers converting those into 21 points.

Like Friday’s win over Dickinson State, the Jimmies used a nearly perfect effort in the second quarter to salt away the game by halftime.

The Jimmies outscored Dickinson State 26-7 in the second quarter Friday night to take a 41-27 advantage at the half and Sunday they improved on that 19-point differential by outscoring the Trojans by 20 – 31-11, to grab an insurmountable 48-19 halftime lead.

MBB: Jimmies 90, Dakota State 81 (2OT)

After making just 3 of their first 22 3-point field goal attempts, 3-point baskets by Riley Henderson (SO/Bismarck, N.D.) and Jake Hagler(SR/Cando, N.D.) with a Jon Purintun (SO/Linton, N.D.) layup wedged in between sparked the University of Jamestown Jimmies (5-6, 1-1) to a thrilling 90-81 double overtime victory over defending NSAA champion Dakota State at the Jamestown Civic Center.

Purintun had a career-high 28 off the bench and punctuated the victory with a layup with 19 seconds left to seal the win.

Logan Brown (SR/Roseville, Minn.) had 19 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, a block and a steal while Jacob Havron (SR/Pukalani, Hawaii) had 15 points and 7 rebounds.  Jake Hagler had 15 points and 4 assists, and Riley Henderson added 7 points, 11 rebounds and 5 blocked shots.

Both teams struggled mightily during the first overtime, scoring just a combined six points in first extra period.  The Jimmies were just 1-of-10 from the floor while the Trojans were only 1-of-7.

In the second overtime, after the two teams traded early baskets, Henderson knocked down his 3-point shot from the top of the key to give the Jimmies a 77-74 lead.  It was the Jimmies first made 3-point shot since Brown’s 3-point basket at the 9:07 mark of the second half.

The Trojans cut the lead to 77-76, but Purintun’s layup and Hagler’s 3-point basket from the corner gave UJ an 84-76 lead with 1:38 remaining.

Jamestown then hit 6 of 8 free throws down the stretch to seal the victory and earn a weekend NSAA split.
