C. Gerdes, 92, Jud, ND, died Saturday, December 17, 2016 at the Eventide at Hi-Acres in Jamestown, ND.
John was born July 15, 1924 at Petersburg, IL, the son of Carl Albert Gerdes and Lydia (Jahn) Gerdes. He attended school in Jud and graduated from Jud High School.
In entered the US Army May 21, 1945 at Ft. Snelling, MN. He served in the European Theater. He was discharged December 3, 1946 at Ft. Sheridan, IL with the rank of PFC.
He returned to Jud, ND, where he worked for area farmers and also at the Jud Elevator.
He and Delores Vanden Berg were married February 3, 1977 at Kulm, ND. They lived in Jud and he continued to work for area farmers. Following the death of Delores in 1995, he continued to live in Jud.
He was a member of the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Jud, VFW, the American Legion and also the Jud Fire Dept.
He is survived by 2 step sons, Mike Vanden Berg, Boise, ID, and Dirk Vanden Berg, Glendale, AZ; 4 step-grandchildren, 4 step-great-grandchildren, and 1 sister, Ruth Gerdes, Jamestown, ND.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, 2 brothers, and 1 sister.
There will be a burial made in the Lutheran Cemetery at Jud, ND at a later date.
