funeral mass for Helen Sadek, 86, Valley City, ND, will be celebrated Saturday, January 7, 2016 at 10:30 AM in St. Catherine’s Catholic Church, Valley  City.  Burial will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery, rural Dazey, ND in the spring.

Visitation will take place at the Lerud Schuldt Mathias Funeral Home in Valley City on Friday from 5-7 PM.  At 7:00, the Rosary will be prayed followed by a prayer serviceVisitation will resume at the church an hour prior to the service on Saturday morning.

Helen Bernadine Mitchell was born December 30, 1930 to Herbert and Jennie (Robrecht) Mitchell in Watsonville, CA.  She grew up in California.  Helen met Henry “Hank” Sadek while he was in California, but he returned to ND, but later proposed to her over the phone.  She accepted, traveled by train to ND, and they were married July 17, 1956.  The couple lived in Page, ND for a time, moved to Sacramento, CA, but finally settled on the Sadek homestead near Rogers, ND.  It was here that they raised their 6 children.  When Henry died in 1996, Helen moved into Valley City.  

She worked at Pamida in Valley City, retiring in 2006 after 29 years there.  Helen enjoyed traveling to see family, as well as going on trips to Branson and Canada.

Helen was always an active member of the community.  She belonged to St. Mary’s Church in Dazey and the St. Catherine’s Church in Valley City.  For 57 years, she was a member of East Rogers Homemakers.  Helen was a member of the Mercy Hospital Auxiliary, Curves, and Valley Voices.  She loved to sing and her kids enjoyed listening.

Helen moved into the Sheyenne Care Center in August of 2012.  She passed away there January 1, 2017.  She loved her family very much!  Helen is survived by her children, Joan (Gary) Koch, John (Tammy), Paul, and Susan (John) Triebold; 8 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and 2 brothers.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Rosalie; son, Joseph; grandsons, Nicholas and Andrew; 2 sisters and a brother.  Rest in peace, Helen, and give all your loved ones in Heaven a hug while you continue to look after those left on Earth.
