(NewsDakota.com) The Oakes High School girls basketball team had a solid victory Monday night, while the boys remain seeking win number one of the season.

The girls improved to 6-5 with a resounding 69-25 win over Strasburg/Zeeland Oakes outscored the Clippers (0-7) 16-5 in the second quarter to pull away. Shelby Roney had 21 points for Oakes, while Nicole Schmitz added another 15. S/Z was lead by Madison Vander Vorst with eight points.

The boys of Napoleon-Gackle/Streeter kept Oakes winless on the season with a 55-35 win. Oakes (0-7) was outscored 18-1 in the second quarter to allow the Imperials (3-3) to move ahead for good. NGS had a team high 19 points from Jamison Fettig, while Oakes was lead by Tyler Voightman’s 17 points.

The Oakes girls host Midkota Thursday at 7:30 p.m. Coverage on KDDR-AM 1220/95.9 FM and NewsDakota.com starts at 7:15. The Oakes boys next game is Tuesday January 17 when they welcome South Border.
