MINN. – The Valley City State track and field teams opened the 2017 indoor season with six first-place finishes Saturday at the Super 8 Open, hosted by Bemidji State University. 

 

The Vikings added four second-place finishes at the meet as well. 

 

Junior Megan Johnson led the Vikings with two first-place finishes in her collegiate track debut. The Enderlin, N.D., native won the long jump with a leap of 4.93 meters and the triple jump with a mark of 10.14 meters. 

 

Seri Geisler took second in the women’s shot put with a throw of 12.46 meters.

 

On the men’s side, Isaiah Tivis, Niklas Ernst and Orin Rambow each won an individual event and ran on VCSU’x 4×400 relay that that took first with a time of 3:41.49. Lenzel Koskela placed second in the 60 meter dash in 7.42 seconds and also ran on the 4×400 team that took first.

 

In his collegiate debut, Tivis won the 200 meter dash in 23.91 seconds. Ernst took home the 400 meter title after crossing the line in 52.12 seconds. Rambow won the 600 meter run in a time of 1:27.10. 

 

Casey Engelhard took second in the 600, and VCSU’s ‘B’ 4×400 relay team of Engelhard, Royce Brawley, Dennis Gonzalez and Martin Mena placed second as well. 

 

“This was certainly a competition that allowed our younger athletes to gain experience and get some reps in,” said head coach Chris Johnson. “At this point in the season, that is of utmost importance in terms of their growth and development throughout the rest of the year. With a big meet at South Dakota State next week, this was a great starting point for us.”

 

Up next: Valley City State will compete Friday, Jan 20th, at a meet hosted by South Dakota State University.
