N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown Public School Board heard from Superintendent Robert Lech Monday night on updating current policy to simplify it and change it to better reflect state policy.

Lech reported first on a number of changes to the school’s current policies. Right now, the schools have remained up to date with the latest state requirements by adding them to the current policies. According to Lech, the comprehensive policies sent down from the state school board need to be matched up with the local ones.

Lech says this has made it difficult to comprehend and find the school’s current policy.

The school board later took motions on rescinding several items and conducting first reading’s on new items.

Later in the meeting, High School Principal Adam Gehlhar addressed the board to give an update on his work with STEM and the Capstone Projects. These things will get students more involved in career work and internships before they choose a career path. (Click here to learn more)

Gehlhar has been working on the project with a committee since becoming the High School Principal in 2016. School Board member Jennifer Schmidt commended him on his current work, stressing the need for it in Jamestown.

The board also took a look at several legislative items currently being discussed at the State level. Superintendent Lech reports that while it is still early, there are several bills that would affect school’s in the area. He points out that individuals should contact their local legislators and inform them on the importance of school’s to the state senate and state representatives.
