N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The University of Jamestown has not had a piano instructor for nearly 5 years and they are looking to revamp and reintroduce it back into its curriculum.

Dr. Edwin Aybar is the newest addition to the University’s music department. He works in music history and piano studies.

Aybar was born in Puerto Rico and moved to Minnesota when he was 13. He studied music at Wheaton University,  obtained his masters degree in Piano Performance in St. Louis and obtained another masters in history in South Dakota. He later received doctorate at NDSU in Fargo and later opened up his own music studio. He began working at the University of Jamestown in the Fall of 2016.

Dr. Aybar pointed out that right now, their piano department is very small.

Currently, the music department is in search of new piano students who would be interested in going into piano as a major. Dr. Aybar explained that piano teachers in the area could refer students to the University now if they expressed interest in continuing their studies.

Dr. Aybar pointed out that there were some benefits in applying to a growing department like the one at the University.
