N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown Police & Fire Committee and Public Works committee met Thursday evening at the City Hall.

During the Jamestown Fire & Police Committee meeting, Chairman Dan Buchanan informed the committee of a Mutual Aid Agreement Memorandum of Understanding between the City of Bismarck Fire Department and City of Jamestown Fire Department.

Jamestown Fire Chief Jim Reuther stated that talks had been had between themselves and Bismarck regarding this agreement in light of the Dakota Access Pipeline Protests.

The committee unanimously agreed.

Moving into the Public Works Committee meeting, an engineering services agreement was discussed with Interstate Engineering regarding a 2017 Water Main Replacement. Darrell Hornbuckle with Interstate Engineering reports that a lot of water main breaks had occurred in the area of consideration.

The agreement was passed.

Later in the meeting, discussion of the road from Menards to the Jamestown Regional Medical Center took place. Steve Aldinger with Interstate Engineering stated that some things needed to be changed in the Land Use & Transportation Plan in order to receive approval from the DOT to move forward.

Mayor Katie Andersen stated that everything was moving forward and everything looked good for a potential Spring start date for construction.

Aldinger confirmed that everything was scheduled to be done by March and construction would commence following with an estimated fall completion date.

The last major item discussed was Jamestown recycling contracts. Mayor Katie Andersen reported that there were some issues in the contract that would need to be addressed before approval in February. One of those issues was the term length.

It was also pointed out that Renaissance would be looking for a grace period regarding trash overflow into the recycling and dumping it at the city landfill. City Administrator Jeff Fuchs also reported that there was a clause in the contract that said all pickup by Renaissance would be their responsibility.

The committee moved the options to February 6th without recommendations and will further discuss and potentially approve the contract at that time.

Citizen K.C. DeBoer stated that he has been through implementing recycling for two other municipalities and pointed out that the city should be prepared for a steep learning curve regarding recycling.

Joan Morris of the City Beautification Committee stated that they have been willing to help with education regarding recycling in the community. The contract will be further discussed February 6th.
