N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Stutsman County Commission will be contacting the state legislature in regards to a proposed bill that will close some State Highway Department shops.

Stutsman County Commissioner Dave Schwartz reports that the state looks to save $2.1 million in Bill 2012 by closing area North Dakota Highway Department Shops. Some of the shops include Courtenay, Gackle, Litchville, Finley and several others. He stated that he had been contacted by several county residents asking for the council to oppose that provision in the bill.

Schwartz says most of his constituents requesting the opposition are from the Courtenay area. He says if the bill goes through, the state would need to find a way to service those smaller townships with other state shops.

The Stutsman County Commission unanimously approved to write a letter to Governor Doug Burgum concerning the closure of several local State Highway Department shops.
