CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) CHI Mercy Health Foundation is excited to announce it has been chosen by Dakota Medical Foundation and Impact Foundation to participate in Giving Hearts Day, a 24-hour online fundraising event that will be held on Thursday, February 9. Contributions of or more (given online) will be matched by DMF or other generous donors (up to the first 00).  To support CHI Mercy Health Foundation and have your donation matched, simply go to impactgiveback.org anytime on February 9.

Event coordinator Stephanie Mayfield said this year, our goal is to raise $14,000 during Giving Hearts Day. We are looking to raise $4000 for a new EKG machine for our in-patient rooms. The EKG is the most important test when a person is having a heart attack or an abnormal rhythm that we can perform within minutes of symptoms starting. The EKG can determine if a patient is having a heart attack within minutes of arrival. Every minute without treatment more heart muscle dies. The goal is to have an EKG done within 10 minutes of a patient presenting symptoms with chest pain. An EKG machine is an extremely important diagnostic tool that we use for our patients several times a day.

Mayfield said, we are looking to raise the remaining $10,000 needed to purchase a new Pulmonary Function Test Machine for our Respiratory Therapy Department. The PFT Machine is used to diagnose lung diseases such as COPD and asthma. In addition, PFT’s are used to evaluate a patient’s lung capacity prior to under-going surgery. CHI Mercy Health does about 100 of these tests per year.

Mayfield is asking the public to join them for an “Open House” from 10am-2pm on Thursday, February 9 to celebrate Giving Hearts Day. There will be Valentine treats available as well as laptops set up for assistance with online giving. After the event join the Foundation Board and Hospital Staff at the Valley City Eagles Club from 5pm-7:00pm that evening for a Free-Will Spaghetti Supper.

CHI Home Health and Hospice and will have laptops available for online giving, photo booths, and valentine gifts and balloons for the kids.
