CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Come and enjoy a live cooking demonstration highlighting 6 Healthy Heart Tips and Tastes on Thursday, March 23, at 7 pm at the Party Room Kitchen at the Gaukler Family Wellness Center.  The event is free but registration is required so call Young People Healthy Heart at 845-6456 to sign up.

The cooking demonstration is provided by CHI Mercy Health, with the Young People’s Healthy Heart Program’s Sharon Buhr and Andrea Winter, both licensed registered dietitians, demonstrating cooking techniques that are easy for anyone to use in their own home.  Attendees will be able to sample everything that is prepared.

“There are many healthy foods that are easy to prepare that can help protect us from not only heart disease, but diabetes, cancer and high blood pressure,” states Buhr.  “And once you taste a recipe, you’re more likely to prepare it at home.”

The menu will focus on a healthy evening meal—an easy baked fish recipe, a roasted veggie, and  fruited poppy seed salad. A breakfast menu featuring blueberry whole grain pancakes will also be demonstrated and sampled.

Buhr and Winter will also discuss the various health benefits of fish, cruciferous veggies, nuts, whole grains and why we should eat a rainbow of colors in fruits and veggies.

Winter said, “Cooking at home is fun with the right, healthy foods,” comments Winter. And on a related note, Winter encourages everyone to couple that with 30 minutes of exercise on at least five days of the week.”

In addition, each attendee will received a complimentary cookbook, Weight Watchers New Complete Cookbook, a $25 value.
