Clay was born on July 9, 1960 in Dazey, the son of Morris and Annie Tharaldson. He was the youngest child of six. He grew up and was raised in Dazey, which has been his forever home. Clay attended school at North Central of Barnes. Clay had worked many years with his dad and brother, Jerome, doing construction jobs with Tharaldson Construction. He enjoyed many things in life, his family and many friends were a big part of his life. He never turned anyone away and always had a smile. His cat, Rusty, was one of his favorites. His flower gardens and other garden were his pride and joy. Clay enjoyed going on 4-wheeler rides around Dazey, stopping and visiting whomever was outside for a chat. One of his newest prides was of course his Bison Pride. He recently got a Bison tattoo. Taking a look at his yard screaming Bison Pride, from the house with Bison colors, Bison flags, and all of his other Bison gear. Cooking big meals for everyone was something else he enjoyed. He even took over all of the baking. He always thought of others before himself. He taught nieces and nephews how to cook. He was very close to his brother, Jerome. They spoke every day. He was a friend to everyone, always trying to help friends and family through their struggles. His love he carried for his extended family cannot be put into words. He fought hard through the many surgeries he faced over the last few years. Clay passed away on March 30th surrounded by his family and friends who all loved him so much, but had to let him go.
Clay is survived by his daughter, Olivia Hanson of Detroit Lakes, MN and granddaughter, Layla. He is also survived by his mother, Annie Tharaldson of Valley City, ND; 4 sisters, Darlene Johnson of Dazey, Deborah (John) Boury of Northwood, ND, Jean (Gloria) Oswald of Moorhead, MN, and Leona “Lonnie” (Adam Grossman) Barnard of Fargo, ND; and his brother, Jerome Tharaldson of Dazey; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends, who will be the honorary pallbearers for his memorial service.
