CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The Valley City Commission approved of a separation agreement with the contract of City Attorney Russell J. Myhre during a special City Commission on Monday, April 3rd.

On March 28th, Valley City mayor Dave Carlsrud said, the C.S. Hagen interview with Russ Myhre, which centered on a controversy with the city and members of the Committee for Community Involvement published in the High Plains Reader was Russ’ own words and independent of the city.

Carlsrud said a tasteless image shown in the story does not reflect the views of the City Commission and or city employees.

Carlsrud voted against the motion to separate Myhre from the city early due to the added cost and time for the city. He said he was confident that Myhre would conduct himself professionally through the transition as he has done so for many years serving as the city attorney.

But, City Commissioners Duane Magnuson, Matt Pedersen and Mike Bishop voted in favor of the separate of Myhre three months early.

City Administrator David Schelkoph said the city has three attorney’s interested in accepting the position.

Russ Myhre Separation Agreement

On December 27th of 2016, the Valley City Commission unanimously approved of a settlement and agreement concerning the retirement of Russell J. Myhre.

Under the agreement, Myhre was paid $75,000 at the end of 2016 and will be paid another $75,000 this year for a total of $150,000.
