Schmitz, 87, Valley City passed away at the Sheyenne Care Center on April 20, 2017.  Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, April 29, 2017 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Valley City with burial following at Memory Gardens, near Valley City.

Visitation will be Friday from 5-7 PM in the church with a prayer service beginning at 7:00.  There will also be an hour of visitation time prior to the service, Saturday.

Evelyn Charlotte Largis was born, the youngest of 5, to Alfred and Ella (Hedahl) Largis on June 22, 1929 in Amidon, ND.  The family lost their homestead because of the Great Depression and moved to Twin Valley, MN.  During WWII, Evelyn moved to Tower City, ND to help her sister, Esther Starr, with the grocery store and café.  This is where she met Dale Schmitz. They were married June 27, 1948 at Zion Lutheran Church in Twin Valley.  Dale passed away on July 4, 2012.

She attended Dakota Business College.  For many years, she sold Tupperware.

Evelyn was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.  She was involved in Scouting, 4-H, ND Winter Show Board, Homemakers, Faith in Action, and Mercy Hospital Auxiliary.  Her life was spent being a caregiver.

She leaves behind her sons, David and Ken (Barbara); daughters, Peggy (Kevin) Gould and Debra (Tom) Ringuette; grandchildren, Dani (Kent) Bratholt, Andrea (Jeffrey) White, Aaron (Rebecca) Schmitz, Nikole (Josh) Nelson, Nicholas Gould, Tara (Patrick) Nelson, Jordan (Mike) Swenson, Michael Ringuette, Lucas Ringuette, Trinity Ringuette, and Jackson Ringuette; and great grandchildren, Kyle and Kara Bratholt, Alexis and Paige Nelson, Isaiah and Neve Schmitz, Alenna, Arianna, and Isaac White, and Nolan Dale Swenson.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; 2 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Esther (Robert) Starr, Kenneth (Eleanore) Largis, Eleanore (John) Fulton and Milton (Lenore) Largis; as well as her father and mother-in-law, Claude and Helen Schmitz.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church of Valley City.
