funeral service for Alfred “Fred” Charles Offner, 73, Valley City, North Dakota will be 10:30 am Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at Epworth United Methodist Church, Valley City.  Burial will be in Memory Gardens, Valley City. Visitation will be 5-7 pm Monday at Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel with a prayer service at 7 pm in the chapel.  He died Wednesday, April 26, at his home.

Fred was born April 12, 1944 to Alfred and Grace (Peterson) Offner in Valley City.  He graduated from high school in 1962.  Fred joined the US Air Force in 1965 and later came home to farm with his father, and continued farming after his dad passed away.

On October 5, 1968, Fred married Connie Lilleoien in McVille, North Dakota.  Together they had three children, Randy, Michelle and Brian.

Dad was the true meaning of hard work – he believed in it, he taught it, he lived it.  The farm and his cattle were his hobbies along with watching the deer in the yard, but his pride and joy was his family.  When the kids and grandkids were around, the work ceased, and the boat came out.  Other times with dad meant whisker rubs, wrestling, hugs, and the words “I’m so proud of you.”

Fred is survived by his wife, Connie; children, Michelle (Brian) Sys, Minot, ND, and Brian (Alison) Offner, Jamestown, ND; grandchildren, Alison, Hunter, and Reese Sys and Jacob and Jordan Offner; one brother, Jerry Offner, Valley City; and sisters, Pam (Steve) Stark, Valley City, Norma Couillard, Shafer, MN, Mavis Lee, CO, and Sandy (Gary) Smith, Lindstrom, MN; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Randy, and a brother, Keith.

Funeral arrangements for Fred have been entrusted to the care of the Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel, Valley City.  An online guestbook is available at www.olivernathanchapel.com.
