S.D.(PlayNorthStar.com) – The brackets for the 2017 North Star Athletic Association Postseason Baseball Tournament are set. Jamestown and Valley City State will be this year’s conference tournament host sites, with the opening round starting on Friday, May 5. Top eight seeds advance to the NSAA Baseball Postseason Conference Tournament, which will feature two brackets—Bracket A and Bracket B—using a double-elimination within each bracket.
Bellevue (47-7 overall record, 23-1 NSAA conference record) has secured the first automatic NSAA bid to the NAIA Baseball National Tournament after winning the regular-season conference outright title for the second straight year. The Bruins are the top overall seed in the conference tournament and will play in Bracket A. Bracket A includes No. 4 seed Jamestown (36-17 overall record, 17-7 NSAA), No. 5 seed Dickinson State (21-25 overall record, 11-13 NSAA) and No. 8 seed Presentation (14-35 overall record, 6-18 NSAA). The first two rounds will take place at Jack Brown Stadium in Jamestown on Friday and Saturday.
The final two remaining teams in Bracket A competing for the NSAA conference championship berth is scheduled for Sunday at 2 p.m. at Charlie Brown Stadium in Valley City. The conference tournament kicks off with Bruins taking on the Saints Friday at 12 p.m., followed by the host-team Jimmies taking on the Blue Hawks with a scheduled first pitch at 3 p.m.
Mayville State (40-9 overall record, 19-5 NSAA) is the No. 2 seed and will play in the Bracket B section along with No. 3 seed Valley City State (25-23 overall record, 18-6 NSAA), No. 6 seed Viterbo (12-34 overall record, 10-14 NSAA) and No. 7 seed Waldorf (18-35 overall record, 9-15 NSAA). Bracket B opens up the tournament play with the Comets taking on the Warriors at 1 p.m., followed by host-team Vikings taking on the V-Hawks scheduled for 4 p.m.
All games in Bracket B will be played at Charlie Brown Stadium in Valley City. The final two remaining teams in Bracket B will play in Valley City at 11 a.m. on Sunday for a berth to the NSAA championship game.
