In other news, the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation continues to investigate the Wells County Sheriff’s office following the sudden resignation of Sheriff Johnny Lawson and the termination of deputies Alex Schwein and Alois Peter Warren by the Wells County Commission.

Well County State’s Attorney Kathleen Murray said according to documents she was provided, former Wells County Deputy Warren had been charged with felonies in the State of Michigan. Officers with the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation told Murray that these prior matters would not allow Warren to be licensed by the North Dakota Peace Officer Standards and Testing Board.

Meanwhile, neighboring law enforcement agencies and the North Dakota Highway Patrol are now handling law enforcement duties in Wells County until the county commission can hire a new sheriff and deputies.
