N.D. (AP) — A 6-year-old boy has died in a highway crash near Cando.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol says the child wasn’t properly secured in a minivan and was thrown from the vehicle when it was struck by a car that was northbound on Highway 281. The boy died at Towner County Medical Center.

The minivan’s driver and a female passenger were airlifted to Altru Hospital in Grand Forks. Their conditions are not known. The driver of the car is a Devils Lake man. He and two juvenile passengers were not seriously injured.

The patrol says the car was slowing down to make a turn at an intersection when the minivan attempted to pass, was struck and rolled in a ditch.
