funeral service for Margaret Elaine Larson, 85, Valley City, North Dakota will be 2 pm Monday, May 15, 2017 at Grace Free Lutheran Church, Valley City. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church. Burial will be in Woodbine Cemetery, Valley City. She died Wednesday, May 10 at the Sheyenne Care Center, Valley City.
Margaret Elaine Thom was born December 11, 1931 in Jamestown, North Dakota, the daughter of Arnold and Mary (Baenen) Thom. She graduated from Jamestown (ND) High School and attended Valley City State University. She taught school for one year south of Jamestown at a rural school in Sydney Township.
She was united in marriage to Toby Larson on December 8, 1950 in Jamestown. They made their home in Valley City, where they raised their four children. They celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary this past December.
A big part of Margaret’s life was her family and church family. She had taught Sunday school for over 40 years.
She is survived by her husband, Toby Larson and children, Mary Burchill (Duane), Jeanne Shanenko (Bruce), Darlene Shanenko (Greg) all of Valley City and Tobe Larson (Kelly) of Grand Forks, North Dakota; 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, a grandson, Smith Burchill and a brother, Rich Thom.
