CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)- The Hi-Liners couldn’t get the bats going in a pair of losses to Grand Forks Red River Friday night at Charlie Brown Field. Valley City fell 3-0 and 6-1 to The Roughriders. The final week of the regular season begins Tuesday for Valley City with a trip to Fargo North. They are back home Friday.

 

 

 Game1: GF Red River 3  VCHS 0

Valley City was on the losing end of pitchers duel. After rolling through the first 5 innings in 58 minutes Red River scored the game’s first run on an RBI hit from Daniel Pierce. In the bottom of the inning The Hi-Liners had 1st and 3rd with no one out but failed to score. In the 7th The Roughriders added some insurance with a pair of runs. Valley City left 5 on the base paths. 

Red River’s Conner Richardson struck out 9 over 7 inning with just 3 hits. Nate Rodriguez also went the distance, he recorded 8 strike outs while scattering 8 hits. He set down 9 batters in a row from the 2nd through 4th inning. 

Cole McGough, Stephan Brooks and Sam Jenson proved Valley City’s hits. Isaac Burger had 2 hits and and RBI for Red River. Luke LaMoine had a triple, RBI and 2 runs. 

Game 2: Red River 6 VCHS 1

 The Roughriders jumped to an early 2-0 lead and never trailed behind Matt Clausen’s 1 hit performance. The righty struck out 10 including the 1st three to open the game. Valley City’s lone run was scored on a bases loaded walk to Reese Huschka in the 2nd. 

 Luther Zeltinger had Valley City’s only hit. Joey Schindler and Reed Turner each had 2 RBIs for Grand Forks. Stephan Brooks pitched 7 innings for Valley City with a strike out.
