N.D. (NewsDakota.com)—-The Carrington Cardinals baseball team picked up wins over Mayville-Portland-Clifford-Galesburg (MPCG) and Grafton on Friday and were defeated by Hillsboro-Central Valley (HCV) on Saturday over the weekend in Casselton.
Carrington 4 MPCG 2 (6 innings)
Braxton Hewitt hit a 2 run walk-off homerun in the bottom of the sixth inning to knockoff the Patriots 4-2. Kyle Leapaldt pitched the final 3 innings to pick up the victory on the mound. Leapaldt did not allow any runs, struckout 3 batters, and allowed just 2 hits. The Cardinals had just 4 hits in the game. Payton Smith doubled to start the bottom of the first inning and scored on a Jayden Rosenau double. The Cards picked up an RBI single from Trey Rosenau in the 4th inning to tie the game up before Hewitt’s game winning home run.
Carrington 10 Grafton 3
The Cards scored 5 runs in their first 2 at bats and 5 more runs in the 4th inning and cruised to a 10-3 victory over Grafton. Kyle Leapaldt smashed a 2 run homer that capped a 3 run first inning for the Cards and had 3 RBI in the game. Jayden Shipman went 3-3 with 3 doubles, had 1 RBI, and scored 2 runs. Payton Smith went 1-3 with an RBI and 2 runs scored. Braxton Hewitt went 2-3 with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored. Garrett Bickett and Lucas Geiszler both went 1-2 with 1 run scored.
Hewitt pitched all 5 innings to pickup the win allowing 3 runs (1 earned). Hewitt had 6 strikeouts, allowed 5 hits, and walked 4 batters.
HCV 12 Carrington 7
The Burros scored in every inning and took advantage of 6 Cardinal errors and 8 wild pitches to pickupma 12-7 victory. The Burros scored 3 runs in the first, 1 in the second, 4 in the third, 2 in the fourth, and 2 more runs in the the fifth inning for the victory. Ryan Troftgruben was the winning pitcher for the Burros. Troftgruben allowed 7 runs (5 earned), 10 hits, no walks, and hit 1 batter. Tanner Linnell went 2-4, reached base 4 times and scored 4 runs for the Burros. Kyle Henningsgard went 3-4, scored 3 runs, and had 3 RBI.
The Cards Hunter Mittleider went 2-3 with an RBI and 1 run scored. Kyle Leapaldt also went 2-3 with a run scored. Braxton Hewitt clubbed his third home run of the year in the bottom of the fifth. Lucas Geiszler went 1-3 with a 2 run double, and Jayden Rosenau went 1-3 with 2 runs scored. Jayden Shipman 1-3 and a run scored and Nic Lyman went 1-1 with a sacrifice bunt.
