N.D. (NewsDakota.com)—–The Carrington Cardinal’s baseball team scored 7 runs in the first inning and rolled to a 12-5 Region 3 victory over the Kidder County (KC) Pirates. The Pirates scored led 1-0 thanks to 3 wild pitches in the top of the first inning that scored Dalton Jangula after a 1 out single. The Cards 7 run inning was aided by 3 walks, 2 hit batters, and 4 hits. The Cards added 2 more runs in the second inning on 3 more hits and led 9-1. The Pirates would score 3 times in the fourth and 1 run in the fifth to cut the Cardinal’s lead to 9-5. Carrington answered back with a 3 run fifth and capped off the scoring which included Braxton Hewitt’s 4th home run of the year.

Kyle Leapaldt went 3-3, was hit by pitch, and scored 3 runs. Hewitt went 2-3 and drove in 3 runs. Payton Smith went 2-3, had an RBI, and scored 2 runs. Jayden Shipman went 1-1, scored 2 runs, walked once, was hit by pitch, and had an RBI sacrifice flyout.

Kamen Schmidt went 2-3 with an RBI and Jayson Knight went 2-3 with 2 RBI to lead the Pirates offensively. Lucas Geiszler picked up the victory on the mound for Carrington pitching 4 1/3 innings allowing 4 runs (3 earned) and struckout 6 batters. Brandon Dewald took the loss for the Pirates going just 1/3 of an inning allowing 6 earned runs. Carrington improved to 11-5 (7-1) overall and will be the number 1 seed in the upcoming Region 3 tourney in Carrington (May 22-24). Kidder County dropped to 11-10 (4-4) overall and will be the number 3 seed in the Region 3 tourney. Carrington will travel to Rugby on Tuesday (16th) for a pair of five inning varsity games starting at 4:00 with pregame starting at 3:45 on AM 1600 KDAK and newsdakota.com
