N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – After 5 years in Wimbledon, the Midland Continental Depot Transportation Museum will be holding a celebration this weekend.

The Wimbledon Newsletter editor Mary Beth Olombel reports that David Foster, Peggy Lee’s grandson, will be in town to help celebrate five years of operation. Completed in 2012, the professionally interpreted museum educates, inspires and impresses.

The museum commemorates the history of the Midland Continental, a short railroad line that operated between 1912 and 1970. It also pays tribute to the late Peggy Lee, the popular American Jazz singer, songwriter, and actress who worked at the depot from 1934 to 1937.

“During Peggy’s high school years, the community of Wimbledon was instrumental in helping her start her musical career, and she graduated from Wimbledon High School in 1937,” reports ND Tourism. “The depot agent’s living quarters are depicted on the second floor of the building, and the large living room upstairs is dedicated entirely to Peggy Lee and the history of her life. View Peggy’s dresses, see her photos and memorabilia, and take a listen to Peggy’s music.”

The museum will open its doors every day from 1 PM to 4 PM starting Memorial Day Weekend until Labor Day. They will also open during Wimbledon’s 125 Celebration June 22nd – June 25th.
