N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown Police has released more information on an apparent murder/suicide that took place in Jamestown.

Jamestown Police Chief Scott Edinger reports that on August 6th, officers were dispatched to 1906 4th St. NE on a report of two bodies found in the home. He reports the bodies were originally found by the fathers of the two deceased individuals. Officers identified the two as Casey Gene Jensen, 33, and Cherish Renae Petersen, 26.

Edinger says Jensen and Petersen were in a domestic relationship and both were currently residing in the home. Bodies were sent to the North Dakota Forensic Examiner’s Office for autopsies.

“According to information from the North Dakota Forensic Examiner’s Office, Cherish Petersen died as a result of a gunshot wound to the back of the head and Casey Jensen died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head,” Edinger reports.

A Winchester rifle, two shell casings and several other items were taken as evidence during the investigation. Police believe the incident to have occurred sometime in the late evening hours of August 4th or early morning hours of August 5th.

A three month-old child was found uninjured in the home, but was taken to the Jamestown Regional Medical Center for treatment of dehydration and later released to family members.

The North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation assisted in the investigation.
