N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Senior Running back Clayton Grueneich had 214 yards rushing and three touchdowns as the No. 1 Thunder of Ellendale/Edgeley/Kulm defeat the Broncos of Lisbon Friday night 34-12. EEK improves to 3-0 in Class A Region I and 4-0 overall, Lisbon drops to 0-3 in Class A Region I and 0-4 overall.
Senior Cole Goehring ran the ball four times for 35 yards and a touchdown, he scored the first touchdown of the game with about five minutes left to play in the first quarter on an 11-yard run. Senior quarterback Jacob Dewald completed 5-13 passing with 126 yards and one touchdown. Dewald connected with Phillip Hagen for a 28-yard touchdown catch late in the second quarter. On the ensuing kickoff return, the Broncos Senior Tristin Howard ran the ball back for a 75-yard kickoff return, making it 21-6 at the half. Grueneich scored his next two touchdowns late in the third quarter and early in the fourth quarter, from five yards out and three yards out respectively.
The last touchdown of the game came with about seven minutes left to play when Senior Jordan Urbach connected with Howard for a 27-yard touchdown pass. Urbach was 3-8 with 47 yards and one touchdown passing, and had 16 carries for 101 yards rushing.
