Coach’s Comments

We switched gears into overdrive in practice yesterday and it carried into today’s match.  This is by far the best our team has played this season.  The intensity and focus was on point which increased our consistency.  Our drive to win each point led to picking off balls and putting points away.

Our perseverance was amazing.  We came back from one set down in three separate matches to win those matches.  That is a stat that I have never seen in my 12 years of coaching boys and girls tennis.  Just WOW!

I’m more proud of our team in the loss today than any other match this season.  They came ready to compete for each point.  They never gave up.  They listened to coaching and enacted it on the court.  They took everything from practice yesterday and put it into action.  They played to win.

In doubles, we picked off many balls and put them away.  Also, we were very consistent with our footwork and racquet prep that lead to very consistent shots.  Jack and Collin played their best tennis of the year.  Their focus, belief and confidence were key to the win.  Collin had the double comeback as he dropped the first set in both his singles and doubles before coming back and winning.  Great work!

Blake has been our best hustler and had the best footwork.  He now has 21 other players right on his heals as our entire team has stepped it up.  Austin, Blake’s partner, really stepped it up with his consistency at the baseline, but also his aggressiveness at the net.  He was a beast today.

Riley and Liam both had very long singles matches.  So long that we needed to stop the match and head to City Park and finish under the lights as it was too dark to finish!  We headed to City park up 4-3 in the match, but down in the third set of both Liam’s and Riley’s matches.  Both gave their all, but came up short and Fargo North beat us 5-4.

Fargo North was a very fun opponent.  Their sportsmanship, respect, and attitudes were top notch.  Their line calls were more than fair.  Their parents were fantastic as well.  Fargo North beat us today, but we played the best we have ever played.  Kudos to Fargo North; they are a class act and they earned the win today.
